65th Anniversary Celebration

This couple was still very spry! Lots of music and dance at this joyous occasion. This was a package with a separate photographer. I worked with Larry, who takes great pictures, but these are stills from my video.

Upcoming Changes for 2017

Look for some changes coming for the new year. Mainly, I am moving to shooting mostly in 4k. I will be using the new Sony FDR X3000 4K action cam frequently for shots where a lot of movement is required. I had been using a GoPro, but frankly, the quality just wasn't good enough for me. This Sony camera is significantly better in almost every aspect.

I will also be simplifying my pricing, because too many people are confused by the packages I offer on the website. Some rates will be increasing, because of inflation and the move to mostly 4K, but also other rates will actually be going down.

Another big change is that I will move to displaying more photography and video on the website, and posting new work more often on this blog, so that you can more easily decide whether you want to use my services.

All of the above changes will be put in place by the end of January 2017. Later on in the year, I plan to launch a YouTube channel for vlogging.

Memorial Service for Someone Who Passed Much Too Young

I shot video of a memorial service for a man who passed away from a rare disease when just in his twenties. Such a moving service, featuring very touching musical performances and reminiscences from family and friends. I was often crying. Here are some stills from the video.

Halloween Themed First Birthday Celebration

Some of the costumes at this party were fantastic! In addition to the usual elements like face painting, balloons, and a show for the kids, there was a costume contest. Also, the members of the live band were dressed up like witches! I was hired to do video and photography, with a different person handling the photos. Larry did his usual great job with the photography, but these are stills from the video.

A Wedding at Paradise Cove Beach Shot in 4K

This couple chose the 4k option to get nice pictures straight from the video, suitable for enlargements, without having to pay for a separate photographer. The horizontal shots, even the panoramic one, are all stills from the video, while the vertical one is a regular photo I shot after the ceremony.

Gallery from Three Recent Captain Howie Weddings

As I've said before, if you use Captain Howie for your wedding ceremony and photos and video, you'll definitely have a unique experience. He doesn't dress or speak like a traditional minister, and his unusual house, known as the "Hobbit House," is a great place for photos. Its grounds feature a large, real looking artificial waterfall. You can choose to have the ceremony done there, or on the beach. Another difference is that formal photos are taken before the ceremony. The principal photographer spends a lot of time getting the poses and lighting just right. Here are some stills taken from video.
